Winchester - one of England's most beautiful cities.

  • Winchester Cathedral
  • Round Table
  • Great Hall
  • Castle remains

Visit Winchester, once capital of England, its fine Norman 11th Century Cathedral, ancient school and quaint streets, the Hospital of St. Cross nearly 900 years old still offering Wayfarer's Dole.  On foot to explore the Rectory, City Bridge and Mill then the Mayors’ Abbey Gardens and England’s oldest City street. No taxes at Westgate these days! Then on to The Great Hall and King Arthur’s Round Table and stories of Camelot and brave Knights in shining armour. See what remains of the Castle, Oliver Cromwell to thank, his fight against the Royalists really took its toll.

At last the Cathedral, one of Europe’s most important churches architecturally and historically, enjoy a private guided tour inside and see the tomb of Jane Austen and the famous mortuary chest containing bones of Saxon Kings.. Then off past Pilgrims Hall back to today, the shops and the restaurants paving the way.

Winchester is the home of good food and the birth place of cricket. Its also the resting place of Jane Austen who is buried in the cathedral and who remains and inspiration to the many craft makers and artists who live in the city.

This would be the perfect way to pass the time en-route to or from Heathrow...!
